Look what I've got!
For years my son and I have planted a "garden". At least we've put a few tomatoes and some peppers in pots. A couple of years ago we even ripped out some scraggly Silver Artemisia from a raised bed next to the house and planted some herbs. The herbs, which pretty much thrive on neglect, have done well. But the veggies? Well....most years we've gotten something along the lines of one and a half tomatoes <the birds you know>, a scorched shriveled bell pepper and once we got a green bean. That's right, a green bean. But look what happened this year! Do you see all those lovely tomatoes? <And don't you love those cool tomatoes cages?> I can hardly believe it. We've...got...tomatoes! What did we do different? Nothing. It was Mother Nature. It has rained, and rained, and rained here this year. Who knew that if you water plants they do well? OK, I did know that...I just wasn't too good at doing it. I can't tell you how many times I've come home from a four day trip to do a show and found the potted veggies laying limp over the rims of the pots. Poor things. But that's all behind us now. Happy tomato days lay ahead! The bell pepper is not making bell peppers though. It blooms like crazy, but then....nothing. I think it is holding a grudge for all those poor bell peppers that came before it. |
